Technique
“My style is semi-cartoony with a touch of realism. I love to create illustrations with storytelling elements and emotive characters. To give my images a sense of warmth, I use light pencil lines with soft-shaded coloring.
I’m primarily a digital artist, producing all my finished color art in Photoshop CS3. However, I still do the drawings traditionally using pencil on paper, as I find it gives me a greater degree of control and precision. I usually draw with mechanical pencils, but for looser experimental sketches, I use blue line pencil finished with 2B pencils.
Growing up, I enjoyed painting realistic renditions of animals as well as drawing my favorite cartoon character. Animation, especially the Disney and Studio Ghibli movies, and comics/manga had a big influence on my artistic style. My favorite artists are Hayao Miyazaki and Osamu Tezuka. I also find inspiration in nature, animals, and children’s illustration.”
