The Last of the Polar Bears pg 44

Why is this page in black-and-white?

Short Answer: While I’m preparing for The Last of the Polar Bears’ big relaunch, I thought it would be fun to share the raw pencil pages for the next part of the story. As soon as new color pages are ready for viewing, I’ll return to the regular format. ;)

If you’re new here, you might want to click the ‘first’ button on the navigation bar above to jump back to the beginning of the comic and see how the pages normally look with coloring and finishing touches.

Long Answer: I’m currently in the process of storyboarding the comic in its entirety, in preparation for a big early 2012 relaunch, and a return to regular weekly updates.

As part of storyboarding the comic, I’ve reworked the first chapter. There’s a couple of important reasons for this, but for now I’ll just say that due to the changes, I won’t be able to use the pages I created last year and will be making a fresh start (though I will be able to salvage quite a few panels from them).

Leading up to the big relaunch, I have about 20 pages I penciled last year, but never posted. Since I won’t be able to use them in their current form for the relaunch, I thought it would be fun to share them in their raw pencil form…enjoy!

International Polar Bear Day

February 27 is International Polar Bear Day so I thought I’d take a moment to celebrate these amazing animals by sharing some polar bear related art and tidbits.

To start, I’m excited to share our first piece of Last of the Polar Bears fan art. Stella paces the den, eager to go outside and play. A beautiful illustration by Azzai from Russia! (You can +fav it on DA here.)

Here’s a roly-poly polar bear ball by artist Madéleine Flores. She incurred some hefty medical bills after taking a fall over the holidays, so I sent a small donation, and received this adorable picture in response. Thanks Madéleine, hope you feel better soon!

There’s a new polar bear cam showcasing Denmark’s new cutie Siku, rolling around and playing at the Scandinavian Wildlife Park. Best viewing times are 9-11 am EST daily, when the cub is out and about!

Finally, here’s a fantastic list of tips for ways to reduce your carbon footprint, from the scientists over at Polar Bear International. Every little bit helps. The bears (and the planet) thanks you. 🙂
