Today’s warm-up sketches are of orphaned polar bear cub Siku, born last month at the Danish Scandinavian Wildlife Park. Such a cutie!

Here’s the video that inspired the sketches:

In Last of the Polar Bear news… I scanned a bunch of Last of the Polar Bears penciled pages yesterday. Here’s a peek!

(In case you missed the announcement previously, I’m currently working on storyboarding The Last of the Polar Bears in its entirety. There will be a big relaunch for LOTPB early 2012, and regular weekly updates. Really exciting stuff planned. The whole next year will be devoted to my bears! :))

Drawing a Bear in 4 steps:

From Illustration School: Let’s Draw Cute Animals by Sachiko Umoto. Part of an adorable series of drawing books. I just adore Sachiko Umoto’s charming illustrations and whimsical approach to making cute animals that’s simple enough for anyone to follow. Reminds me of the Ed Emberley drawing books I loved so much as a kid.

Daily Animal Sketch – Polar Bears

Warm up sketches of polar bears. The bears here range in age from a week to six months. Instead of my standard mechanical pencil, I decided to try a new technique: sketching with blue line pencil, and finishing with Tombow Mono100 pencils. Feels good, and produces a cleaner drawing. I don’t know if I want to start drawing comic pages this way, but I’ll stick with it for sketching.

Speaking of the comic, in case you missed the announcement the first time… I’m currently working on storyboarding The Last of the Polar Bears in its entirety. There will be a big relaunch for LOTPB early 2012, and regular weekly updates. Really exciting stuff planned. I intend to devote the whole next year to my bears! 🙂

Live Wild Polar Bears, and comic news~

Just wanted to share this awesome link to a live HD webcam of wild polar bears as they migrate near Churchill, Manitoba, waiting for the ice to form. Beautiful footage in real time of polar bears. I’ve had it on in the background as I work on Last of the Polar Bears. <3

While I’m here… update on Last of the Polar Bears: I’m currently working on storyboarding the comic in its entirety. Expect a big reboot and frequent updates for Polar Bears starting early next year. Really exciting stuff planned…I intend to devote the whole next year to my bears! Thanks again to everyone for being so patient with me.  *bow*

Update

Polar Bear at PlayI’m so sorry to keep everyone hanging on the storyline! I have the next 20 or so pages completely drawn, but unfortunately the last several months have been consumed with freelance work leaving me with no time to color and finish them. Freelance work has been good for keeping a roof over my head, but not so good for our polar bear family’s adventure. Speaking of keeping a roof over my head, the owner of the place I’m renting decided to unexpectedly sell her condo, so I’ve also had to put a lot of my energy into preparing to move.

I’m not sure when the next update will be, but hopefully I’ll be able to start fitting polar bear pages back into my schedule soon. As soon as I’m settled into a new place and finished with the freelance project, The Last of the Polar Bears will be my full time focus again, and I am looking forward to it. Every day, I read sad news about the problems polar bears are facing , so I feel it’s more important than ever to tell this story.

In the meantime… Thank you so much for your continuing support and patience!

-Lindsay
